THESSALONIKI PRIDE 2026: BREAK THE CODE
From the moment we are born, society places us within a predetermined system. A binary code that dictates how we exist, how we introduce ourselves, and how we express ourselves. Man or Woman. 0 or 1. Right or Wrong.
But this code is not our nature. It is an artificial construct of social conventions that has trapped us in gendered dichotomies, setting aside the multi-layered richness and complexity of human existence. These dichotomies act as walls, as they deprive us of the right to see ourselves beyond stereotypes and force us to conform to standards that are often absolute and rigid.
This year, in Thessaloniki, we say:
It’s time to “Break the Code.”
- We are breaking the code of gender roles that demand all people to embody either femininity or masculinity.
- We are breaking the code that views any deviation from the binary as a system error.
- We are breaking the code of silence and invisibility, demanding a world where gender identity and expression are a realm of freedom.
The history of the movement, from Stonewall onward, and right up to the streets of our own city, is a history of constantly deconstructing the “norms” of constant negotiation, of constant demands. We have fought for the right to self-determination over our bodies, we have challenged imposed norms, and now, it is time to take a step further.
We invite everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression and sex characteristics, to join this march. Let’s leave behind the restrictive algorithms of patriarchy and social prejudice and create a new language: one of visibility and equality.
Our lives are not black and white. They are a spectrum of colours that no convention can limit.
From 15 to 20 June 2026, we’re breaking free from labels and binary codes. We’re breaking the code of artificial divisions and joining Thessaloniki Pride, where uniqueness is our only constant
