Thessaloniki is served by a well developed network of highways. One runs on the axis West-East, connecting the port of Igoumenitsa on the Ionian Sea with Kipi (border crossing to Turkey). The other runs on the axis South-North, connecting Athens and other cities in Central Greece with Evzoni (border crossing to North Macedonia) and the rest of the European network. There is one more northeast connecting highway to Bulgaria via Promachonas, expected to be free of border control by the time of EuroPride 2024, as Bulgaria has joined Schengen.
By train
Railway connection is Greece has been in decline. For the time being the only efficient rail connection of Thessaloniki is with Athens and the in-between stations.

There are few regular ferry lines to Thessaloniki, most of which are domestic (Aegean islands) and seasonal.
Lately Thessaloniki has also been a destination for international cruise ships.

Thessaloniki Airport "Makedonia" (SKG) has been recently renovated and is well connected with several airports across Europe by regular and low-cost companies.
Best nearby alternatives: Athens, Sofia, Skopje
Airport transfer: X1 (express line to the city centre and train and bus stations), N1 (night line) and 79 (with a change to regular city buses at the nearby connecting station)

- Other international connections include Albania, Turkey, Serbia and several further destination
