Adelina has been a Semi-Finalist at Flickers’ Rhode Island Festival as it continues its journey to different film festivals.

The film, shot during the pandemic, focuses on a confrontation with a fear of a terminal disease while trying to process a complex, personal tragedy. The author takes the viewers onto a journey of different realizations regarding a difficult family relations, gender and sexual identity, migration and re-rooting. It reflects on the experience of queerness in a conservative Catholic setting, the ideas of survival, hope and love as well as the liberation from a feeling of guilt and shame. The author wonders what it is that determines who we really are and speculates whether it is possible to fully accept one’s fate. Trigger warnings: terminal disease, disability, suicide.

The annual dinner commemorating the death of Cornelius, revives Samuel’s memories. He was 20 years old when he discovered his attraction to Cornelius. Tormented by regret and misunderstood by all, he never revealed his homosexuality to Cornelius’s family, whom he had invited that evening. After their departure, Samuel retires to his room, desperate, and seeks refuge in his nightlife : he becomes a Queen of the Night, in tribute to his lost love.

The documentary chronicles about four decades in a small farming village of Eressos on the island of Lesbos, where lesbian women from around the world have been gathering since the late ’70s.

Since the 1970s, lesbians from around the world have flocked to a small village on the Greek island of Lesvos. As tensions between the newly-arrived lesbians and local residents rose, Tzeli Hadjidimitriou – caught in the middle as a local and lesbian herself – chronicled 40+ years of love, community, conflict, and what it means to feel accepted
