On Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 17:00
At the Thessaloniki Tech Lab
Tsimiski 136 (EduAct NGO facilities – YMCA Complex)
Featuring:
Valerie Benguiat, First Secretary, Global Issues and Public Diplomacy, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, UK Government
Jessica Copeland, Human Rights Officer, U.S. Embassy in Athens
Wim Geerts, Human Rights Ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands
Salina Rico, Deputy Consul, U.S. Consulate General in Thessaloniki
Moderator: Kalliopi Chainoglou, Associate Professor of International Law, University of Macedonia and academic coordinator of the event
The discussion will reflect on what role gender plays in diplomacy and foreign policy and how gender equality can be achieved. Gender equality may be internationalized but may have not fully internalized in the foreign service itself. How is gender addressed in diplomacy? Does the diplomatic service look like the people it represents? How does the foreign affairs service promote diversity and inclusion? The purpose of the event is to connect students and the public with diplomats to better understand the opportunities and challenges of careers in foreign policy.
